Creativity is the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work. Anyone who has been involved with the creative process knows that getting stuck or hitting a wall is part of the process. Everyone struggles sometimes to renew their creative spark. Being in a business where we need to stay creative makes that a bit of a bigger challenge so we have to have ways to re-energize that creative spark. Here are the just some of the ways that we do that: • connect with someone you think is creative and let their creativity generate some new ideas for you.
• change up your routine.
• play a game
• free write
• listen to new music
• keep an idea journal with you at all times
• play with toys
• listen to a TED talk
• take a class
• get cooking in the kitchen
• explore the outdoors
• research on Pinterest
• create a vision board
• talk with children
• walk through an art gallery
• watch movies
Creativity is all about being open to the impressions of life as they flow and swirl around us. Its about letting that energy flow out of you and create something unique to you. Enjoy the process and don’t give up when you feel like you’ve hit a snag in the creative process. It’s easy to spark again.
I’m finding that there are themes in my life and by blogging I am discovering just how tightly these themes are woven through me. For example: today’s topic is something I will always do. The first thing that popped into my head was writing.
It has been my go to since I was in high school. The way that I relax, express myself, get creative. It is such an expression of who I am that I don’t even notice how it effects everything. A pen and paper, a computer or tablet are never far away from me and I can often be found jotting something down.
More than that though, I often turn to other people’s writing for inspiration and direction. I am a quote whore. I can pretty much find a quote that applies to anything. I love them. I surround myself with them. I send them to friends when they need a lift. So I guess you could say that I will always have writing and the written word in my life. Its as much a vital part of my existence as breathing.
What is that one thing that is so interwoven in your life that you simply can’t imagine your life any other way?
Have you ever needed a reboot? I was talking with a friend the other day and she told me I needed a reboot. I laughed but the truth is the more I have thought about her words the more I have realized that I do need a reboot. I mean think about it. If your computer is having an issue then you restart it. I know I can’t just shut down my life like a computer and then open my eyes and magically start with a brand new life. I don’t actually want a brand new life. Maybe aspects of it but not a whole new life. I love my life but lately it seems like I need some soul inspiration. Something to recharge my life.
If I continue on with the computer analogy I guess you could say that I have a custom operating system already installed but over time it has slowed down. Gotten bogged down by cookies of past data, attacked by virus thinking, the case is getting worn and showing its age and the processor is just tired from working so damn hard. I would love to just get a brand new, shiny computer with the latest and greatest operating system and the fastest processing speeds and unlimited possibilities for use.
Unfortunately that just isn’t going to happen. The reality is I love who I am and I love the life I live, mostly. I’m not blind to the fact that I have things in my life that could be changed to make it even better. Things I could adjust so I am happier but I love my life, my family, my friends, my job. I just feel like I am missing something important in my life right now.
Everything feels so…the same….
I want a fire in my soul….a burning excitement that gets me motivated each morning….a direction that both scares and delights me. I keep looking and waiting for that inspiration to strike. I know from the past that it can come from any direction. It’s about keeping my eyes open and looking for that certain something to get excited about. That button to reboot my life and get me moving on a new path.
I can’t possibly be the only person in the world that feels like they need a reboot in their life. I know there are others out there looking, waiting, seeking that thing to set their heart on fire. Perhaps if I help others find theirs I can find my own.
I often wonder just how people come by their inspiration. What word or thought or deed triggers an inspiration that literally changes a persons life? I’m not talking about big dramatic moments although what I am talking about could lead to those too. I am talking about those little decisions that spark a whole series of changes within someone…creating a whole person (good or bad).
I am an avid reader and I often find myself wondering how the author of the current book I am reading got the inspiration to write their book. How did someone got inspired to write a play? an Opera? a movie? What inpires someone to draw, to paint, to sculpt? What made someone pick up an instrument? What made someone learn a new software program?
Lets take it to another level. What inspires a person to change their eating habits or they way they dress? What makes someone decide to handle their money better or get more organized? What do you think makes a person reach out to another and offer their hand in friendship or in help? What makes a person take the first steps toward change, toward something new and unknown in their life?
Perhaps the biggest question of all is why do some people take action and others do not? If two people take a class and learn the same thing then why does one person walk out unchanged and the other embraces change and does something with the information? Why do some people take inspired action toward their dreams and others do not? I don’t know why there are times in my life when I am inspired to take action and embrace change and at other times why I am inspired but never do anything with it. Does anyone know the answer to this question? Can anyone tell me why they get inspired to take action?
